Couples face difficulties over time due to life events and stressors which lead to unhealthy and unsustainable patterns of interaction, communication issues, and feelings of imbalance in the relationship. Couples therapy works to increase the understanding of an individual’s perception of the issues and to improve a couple’s ability to solve problems and address issues together.
In couples therapy, attention is placed on treating the relationship and not on identifying one individual as “the problem.” Treatment focuses on exploring patterns of behavior within a couple and helps individuals learn how to engage in healthier interactions with their partner.
Our therapists work with couples to better understand the presenting issues and to create safety in the ways that individuals relate to one another. Focus is placed on strategies that will assist the couple to step out of negative patterns and engage in more productive and supportive ways.
